The Madrid Book Fair 2022 closes with figures similar to 2019

The novel continues to lead sales while the comic makes its way steadily in the closing edition of this Madrid Book Fair.

In the absence of accounting for the total sales and visitors of the Madrid Book Fair 2022, the estimates so far seem to indicate that the figures are similar to those of 2019, an edition that is taken as a reference for having been developed in a context similar to the current one. The novel continues to lead sales, while the comic makes its way steadily.

The 81st Madrid Book Fair ended on June 12 with estimates that seem to indicate that the most anticipated event by readers from all over Spain shows a very positive balance, approaching the figures for 2019, the year in which both, sales, and visitor attendance, beat all records.

In addition to seeing their expectations more than fulfilled, it has been possible to verify a greater diversification in terms of the preferences of readers. Narrative is still the genre that tops the best-seller lists, but the new fact of 2022 is the firm commitment to independent publishing. Although the profile of visitors to the Madrid Book Fair does not coincide 100% with those who visit bookshops the rest of the year, the books published by lesser-known labels have found their own customers, in clear competition with literature that is more commercial.
