The book “¿Como enseñar la lectura desde casa?” by Gloria Riera Rodríguez, offers guidelines to instill a love of reading in the home environment. Her book is the winner of the 2021 Premio Convocatoria Editorial in the “teaching Guide” category.

In the introduction, Riera reflects on the idea that the encouragement of reading remains in the hands of the educational community: «Building reading skills, as everyone knows, is very complex, so complex that it cannot be the exclusive responsibility of classroom teachers.

Time and the conditions of the school greatly limit the actions that they can carry out. In this sense, we can say that educational systems are doing what they can, and they may be failing in their task, but parents, at least in our midst, are doing something worse than failing: ignoring the task».
