The Asturian Olvido García Valdés (1950), winner of the National Poetry Prize in 2007, has won the XXXI Queen Sofía Prize for Ibero-American Poetry this year.
The jury has highlighted the voice of García Valdés, a poet who seeks the essential, "a poet of presence, joy, emotions and nature," as declared by the president of National Heritage, Ana de la Cueva.
