The jury declares 'El Pacto,' by Paco Sordo, and 'Piel de hombre,' by Hubert and Zanzim as the best works of the year.
The Valencian Daniel Torres (Teresa de Cofrentes, 1958), an indisputable name of the genre, has won today the Saló del Còmic Grand Prize for his career. The best Spanish album has been ‘El Pacto’ (Nuevo Nueve) by Paco Sordo. And the best foreign work, ‘Piel de hombre,’ (Norma) by Hubert and Zanzim. Likewise, the best illustrator (Miguel Gallardo Award) this year went to Genie Espinosa.
Torres began his career in the Barcelona magazine El Víbora in the early 1980s. But it was in Cairo magazine where he created his most famous characters and series. The first was “Opium,” and then the space adventurer, “Roco Vargas.” Some of his works are “Sabotage,” “El octavo día,” “El ángel de Nôtre Dame,” “La casa,” and “Picasso en la guerra civil.” This award to Torres puts an end to the controversy that was generated last year when the award went to an publicist instead of a cartoonist.
