We do more digital reading every year, but we continue to read much more on paper

The book industry hit rock bottom in 2013 with a turnover of 2,181 million Euros and, since then, has struggled with moderate success each year to recover the 3,195 million of that splendid 2008.

But then the pandemic came, we were all confined and something happened: we had time to read. And we got to it with a commendable dedication.

Thus, despite the difficulties arising from the forced confinement, in 2020 the sector managed to grow by 0.8% to 2,439 million Euros, a figure that in 2021 was not only stabilized, but also skyrocketed (in the absence of definitive figures) a whole 20%, to approach for the first time in twelve years up to 3,000 million. With the pandemic we recovered and strengthened the reading habit, it could be said. (David Gallardo, April 13th, 2022).
