TodoLiteratura selects the twelve best historical novels of 2021

The year 2021 has been a good year for the historical novel. After a fateful 2020 due to the pandemic and the delay suffered by the publication of numerous books, in this exercise we return to normality with a lot of good books on historical themes.

As always, the choice of works has been difficult due to the quality of the published titles, we have had to increase the classification we had planned by two novels, but it has been worth it. You, dear reader, will judge if we have been right, wrong or we have stayed in no man's land.

To begin, highlight the strength of women writers this year. The two first places are taken by two authors beyond our borders. One writes from green Northern Ireland and the other from the Hungarian Alps. The best historical novel of the year came from the pen of Maggie O'Farrell and it is the incredible "Hamnet".
