The EDEBÉ Prize for Children and Young Adult Literature celebrated its 30th anniversary on January 27th

On January 27th, 2022, it will be 30 years since the Edebé Prize for Children and Young Adult Literature began its journey until today, by the editor Reina Duarte.

The prize in figures:

  •     3 National Literature Prizes awarded by the Ministry of Culture
  •     9 international awards
  •     19 international translations
  •     135 international editions
  •     César Mallorquí the most awarded author, in 4 editions

Shiva's Tears by César Mallorquí (600,000 copies) and Mentira by Care Santos (300,000 copies) were great publishing successes.

A good example is the winner of the first edition in the young adult category, at that time an unknown and now deceased Carlos Ruiz Zafón. At only 28 years old, he won the first prize with the novel The Prince of the Fog.

The Edebé Award is unique in that originals written in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, and Basque can be submitted. Throughout its history, 39 originals have been awarded in Spanish, 15 in Catalan and 3 in Galician.
