Mónica Rodríguez wins the XXX Edebé Infantil Prize with her work «Rey», the terrible real case of Ivan Mishukov, the abandoned five-year-old Russian boy who lived in the streets in the eighties with a pack of dogs; with them he grew up, not knowing how to speak and getting by as best he could.
The author says that she did not want to read too much about his story, that she has been inspired by him and by the curiosity that this relationship with animals produced in her, since her own dog «Poe», after years of living together, has shown her that when he looks at her, there is someone. Roberto Santiago, a member of the jury, has highlighted his overwhelming start and the pressing need to know what is happening with this child, and, above all, the literary quality of the text; he admits having read it more than once and that he even had to enthusiastically share it with his niece, Jimena.
He highlights how Ramos’ protagonist describes depression: “it is climbing a mountain by digging a tunnel from inside it”.
