The XXV Alfaguara Novel Award 2022: "El tercer paraíso,” by Cristian Alarcón

Alfaguara, a label founded in 1964 and which since 2014 has been part of Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, has contributed since its debut to the dissemination of literature written in Spanish on both sides of the Atlantic.

Following the prize for the best editorial cultural work to Alfaguara in 2021, this publishing label that serves as a Spanish-speaking bridge for all, received 899 manuscripts to opt for the Alfaguara Novel Prize this year.

According to the jury, Cristian Alarcón, the Chilean writer and journalist who lives in Argentina, has written a novel that opens the door to hope. “El tercer paraíso” deals with the mystery that cannot be solved, a work with a concise and exact prose, which is very well suited to the story, where numerous topics related to the history of Chile and Argentina are contained, covering a very long timeline but collected in a "short" novel.
