Fiction far surpasses nonfiction in the first week of 2022 in Publishnews-Nielsen

Almost all the best sellers on the Publishnews - Nielsen Spain list are repeated in the first week of January 2022, most of them, as always, belong to the two largest groups in Spain: Planeta and Penguin Random House.

The Publishnews - Nielsen bestseller list for the first week in January 2022, shows fiction books are very prominent in the publishing market, we are talking about 40% compared to 17.50% in non-fiction. The genre of children and young adults is bordering on that of adult fiction, with 39%. Sales are divided, as usual, between the two large groups: Planeta and Random House; and the rest of publishers appear this week with a much lower representation than other weeks, which indicates that the gifts for these holidays have been more commercial, leaving aside the independent publishers.

Among the best-selling fiction books are: La bestia, from Carmen Mola, which continues to lead, followed by Never, by Ken Follet, then Arturo Pérez Reverte’s novel El Italiano. In fourth place, Paloma Sánchez-Garnica, with Últimos días en Berlín. La cuenta atrás para el verano, from La Vecina Rubia, continues in the ranking.  Julia Navarro’s novel, De ninguna parte, climbs up the charts again.
