IPA launches their call for entries to the Voltaire Prize 2022

The Geneva-based International Publishers Association (IPA) launches their call for nominations for the Voltaire Prize 2022, for its exemplary commitment in defending the freedom of publication and for allowing others to exercise their freedom of expression.

Freedom of publication is one of the founding principles of the IPA. Their protection and promotion is one of the key objectives of the IPA. In many countries, publishers who provide authors with the means to publish their written ideas run the same risks as the writers themselves. Their work requires immense courage and an altruistic, value-based commitment. Freedom of publication is far from guaranteed around the world, with daily attempts by governments, extremists, or private interests to intimidate, attack, imprison and even kill publishers.

Kristenn Einarsson, chair of the IPA Committee on Freedom of Publishing, said: “The shortlist of finalists for the Voltaire Prize 2021 is a testament to the many brave publishers out there who risk their freedom to bring books to readers. We want to celebrate more of our colleagues who demonstrate their commitment to publishing freedom."
