We see it every week on our Publishnews-Nielsen, Gandhi or Bookwire lists: children and young adult books make up a large part of the literary market in Spain and in other countries, both European and Latin American.
Children and young adult books continue to gain positions in the literary market. Up to 86% of children between 10 and 13 years old read in Spain, they being the ones that read the most books. This accounts for 13% of the book industry. Within children and young adult literature there are more and more themes of realism, and poetry also makes its way, as in the case of Un hilo me liga a vos, by Beatriz Giménez de Ory, winner of the National Prize for Children and Young Adult Literature.
Publishers such as Liana, Anaya and Libre Albedrío, as Sonia Antón commented in her WonderLij column; or others such as Páginas de Espuma, Avenauta or Nórdica Libros, explore the illustrated narrative for children and young adults from a gender perspective and suitable for adults.
