This year the Esther Benítez Translation Prize went to Carlos Fortea for his translation of “Todo en vano,” by Walter Kempowski, published by the Libros del Asteroide publishing house.
The association awards this prize for the translation into Spanish, Catalan, Basque or Galician of a literary work of any genre originally written in a foreign language and published for the first time the previous year the award is issued.
Votes were tabulated on November 3 via a virtual session. The jury for this award is made up of all the members of ACE Traductores. The winning translation obtained 19 votes out of a total of 103 votes cast. In this link you can consult the results of the voting.
Esther Benitez Eiroa
Esther Benítez Eiroa (1937-2001) was co-founder and president of ACE Traductores, as well as a key translator of Italian and French languages in our country. She translated, among many others, Ítalo Calvino, Alessandro Manzoni, Guy de Maupassant and Jules Verne. In 1992 she was awarded the National Prize for the Work of a Translator, after having received the Fray Luis de León Translation Prize.
