Today November 11, and for another year, “Libraries Day” is celebrated with a cultural campaign, face-to-face meetings with readers, and reading promotions.
We spoke with Álvaro Manso, spokesperson for Cegal and bookseller in Luz y Vida (Burgos) about “El Día de las Librerías” (Libraries Day).
What are the challenges for bookstores in the coming years?
“The challenges of bookstores come mainly from the concern for the promotion of reading, society and its reading capacity, when we are in a moment of technological explosion but in which the paper book continues to demonstrate its full strength compared to the digital book, not to mention the greatest comprehensible benefits in all levels. We like to talk, above all, of social challenges, linked to the environment and responsible consumption. Bookstores are a mirror in which society is reflected, we are adapting in the most rational way possible to the times in which we live.”
