More men's books are published, but women's books sell better

More than half of the sales of the 50 most popular works this year correspond to female writers, up from 35% in 2020.

For years, statistics have proven that women read more books than men, however, those authored with male names have always sold more. But new data points to a possible change in trend. Female writers penned 21 of the 50 most popular books this year, which is 42%, but in terms of copies sold for the titles on this list, the percentage reaches 51%, according to data from independent consultant GfK, which analyzes the Spanish publishing market. In 2020, the percentage of sales only reached 35%.
