The Spanish Government approves the model for publishers to independently manage their copyrights.

The Government approves a Royal Decree by which it ratifies the European directives on copyrights and related rights in the Digital Market.

The Government has approved this Tuesday the model of the European Directive of Copyright in the digital market, that, among other issues, allows each publisher and owner of rights to manage them individually through direct negotiation with digital content conglomerates, or through a copyrights management entity on a voluntary and not mandatory basis.

This has been announced by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in a statement, after the Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, announced the approval of it at the press conference after the Council of Ministers. The purpose of the regulation is to adapt copyrights to the digital market, taking into account the new user practices and introducing measures to correct the imbalances that the appearance of new intermediaries in the digital environment has caused in the market with serious damage to rights holders.
