Last Monday the Observatory for piracy and digital content usage habits for 2020 was presented. Prepared by the Coalition of Content Creators and Industries, and of which the Federation of Publishers Guilds in Spain (FGEE) and CEDRO are part of.
According to this report, digital piracy has decreased 7%, a reasonable figure, given the high percentages when it started, although still considered too high and in the case of books the percentage has not decreased.
Regarding access to content, the book industry is the most affected, with a 33% of individuals who access books illegally, followed by movies (26%), music (25%), newspapers (25%), soccer games (23%), series (21%), video games (20%), magazines (18%) and sheet music (5%).
In 2020, 581 million illegal accesses to books were recorded on the internet, with a market value of 5,134 million Euros. (240 million loss). The number of consumers who accessed illegal content is 33%, as in 2019. 44% of the accesses corresponded to content less than one year old (57% in 2019).
