The Formentor Prize, endowed with 50,000 Euros and supported by the patronage of the Barceló and Buadas families, recognizes the quality and integrity of the authors whose work embodies the prestige and influence of great literature.
This year's winner, César Aira, has published more than a hundred novels (fiction, essay and play scripts), which have been translated into several languages ??since 1981. One of his most notable works is "Como me hice monja" (1993). He has done translations and other editorial work. He has obtained the 2014 Roger Caillois Award and the 2016 Manuel Rojas Ibero-American Narrative Award, among other distinctions. The Argentine author was appointed by the French government Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters).
The award ceremony precedes the Conversaciones Literaries (Literary Conversations) that, since 2008, have brought together writers, publishers, critics, and the public. This year they took place on October 10 and 11 at the Hotel Barceló Sevilla Renacimiento, with the slogan «Náufragos, peregrinos y argonautas» (Shipwrecks, pilgrims and argonauts), as announced by the Formentor Foundation.
