Mexican writer Enrique Díaz Álvarez wins the 49th edition of the award with “La palabra que aparece. Testimonio como acto de supervivencia.”

At the gates of the 50th anniversary, an anniversary that will arrive in 2022, the Anagrama de Ensayo (Essay) Award crosses the pond again to recognize Enrique Díaz Álvarez (Mexico City, 1976) with 8,000 Euros; a writer and professor who takes us on a tour of the history of violence and survival. And, in a way, also of defeat.

Because defeated, vanquished and sunk, all of them erased from official history, from the epic tale of the victors, they appear in this title with which Díaz Álvarez seeks to give a voice to the forgotten and ignored. "The testimony of the defeated is an act of resistance," Daniel Rico, spokesperson for the jury panel which included Jordi Gracia, Pau Luque, Remedios Zafra and Silvia Sesé, has commented. In addition to the work of Díaz Álvarez, the panel has also recognized as finalist «Una filosofía del miedo,» by Bernat Castany Prado.
