Spanish writer and screenwriter Fernando Marías, will receive the Honor Award from the Panama Noir Festival, within the framework of the International Book Fair of Panama (FIL 2021), that will be held August 19-22 in a semi-virtual version.
The Panama Noir Festival, focused on promoting the detective genre, will distinguish Marías by applauding his literary career of more than thirty years. The jury pointed out that Marías "has simultaneously stood out as a screenwriter, director and producer in film and theater, leaving in every step a mark of his generous, creative and entrepreneurial personality".
Screenwriter for film and television, Fernando Marías wrote his first novel in 1990, entitled La luz prodigiosa (Turpial Publishers), for which he also wrote a script with the same title in 2002 and which was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Goya Awards. Another of his novels, Todo el amor y casi toda la muerte (Espasa, 2010) won the Primavera Prize. La isla del padre (Seix Barral, 2015) won the Biblioteca Breve Award. His novel El niño de los coroneles (Destino, 2001) was awarded the Nadal Prize. Marías is also the author of Cielo abajo (Anaya, 2006), which was awarded the National Prize for Young Adult Literature.
