Publishnews Interviews Alberto Achar: «For 50 years we have dedicated ourselves to bringing books closer and available everywhere».

Today we travel to Mexico to meet Alberto Achar, sales director of Librerías Gandhi, the largest chain of bookstores in Mexico. And at this moment Gandhi is celebrating. It has been 50 years since the opening of his first bookstore.

For this reason, we met with Alberto to ask about the health of the fifty-year-old, of the sector in Mexico and, especially, to celebrate.

Good morning and congratulations. What does this anniversary mean? 50 years of Librerías Gandhi, 50 years making readings available to the Mexican people.

A.A. “First of all, thanks for the time. We are very happy. I think the celebration is for the entire union, for all those who believe in the transforming power of reading. The celebration is for Mexico, a country where there are a lot of ups and downs to be able to have a bookstore; It is one of the countries with the lowest number of bookstores per inhabitant. In this case, it is said that there are 800 bookstores in Mexico, and for example, in Argentina there are 2,000, in Spain there are more than 4,000… And it is a celebration of all countries and of all those who believe in culture. To be able to share it with you in an international medium, so that all Spanish-speaking people will know a little bit about Gandhi bookstores. We are very pleased.
