El País has made a selection of books published in 2021; great novels, rediscovered classics, great series, and a bit of escape literature make up the list.
This summer has not been the explosion of freedom we were expecting. But a little bit of isolation when accompanied by the best reading is not bad. The selection that we bring today collects some of what has been published throughout the year and aims to cover many of the subgenres into which the crime novel is divided. As always, it is a subjective list, based on my choices. I am sure I omitted worthwhile novels, and for that I apologize, but there are others which I have read and have gotten me nowhere. So let’s go: shop, read and make this a “crime summer.”
These are some of the titles:
- Catedrales by Claudia Piñeiro, Alfaguara
- Tokio Redux by David Peace, Hoja de Lata
- Huesos en el valle by Tom Bouman, Editorial Siruela
- Tigres de verdad by Mick Herron, Salamandra
- El explorador by Tana French, ADN Publishers
- Arena by Miguel Ángel Oeste, Tusquets Editores
- Causas urgentes by Paula Leonor Rodríguez, Alfaguara
- Kalmann by Joachim B. Schmidt, Gatopardo Publishers
- Agatha Raisin y la quiche letal (Agatha Raisin 1) by M.C. Beaton, Salamandra
- Villanos victorianos by Michael Sims's Edition, Editorial Siruela
