La Semana Negra de Gijón presented their prizes last Friday, July 16. The Argentine Claudia Piñeiro was awarded the Hammet Prize for her novel “Catedrale.” Also, another writer from Argentina, Ana Llurba, won the Celsius Prize for “Constelaciones Familiares” (Aristas Martínez, 2020).
Gijón's Noir Week closed its 34th edition receiving more than 8,000 visitors and with the presentation of their classic Dashiell Hammet prizes for crime novels and Celsius for Science Fiction, respectively. In addition, they awarded the Espartacus prize for the best historical novel in Spanish, which was “El cocinero y la ostra” (Reino de Cordelia, 2020) by Lucía Núñez; the Silverio Cañada Memorial Award won by “Arena” (Tusquets, 2020) by Miguel Ángel Oeste and the Rodolfo Walsh award for best noir genre non-fiction work, which went to “Aquí no hemos venido a estudiar” (Arpa Editores, 2020) by the journalist and essayist Enric Juliana.
