The writer from Portugalete, Mikel Santiago, has just published a new thriller titled "En plena noche:" a novel set in Illumbe, ..
a town on the Basque coast that is reminiscent of the cities that he knows to perfection and where he has moved habitually: Guernica, Busturia and Bermeo. Thus, Illumbe is a kind of the Macondo of Gabriel García Márquez but transferred to present day Basque Country.
On this occasion, Mikel Santiago carries out an investigation in the novel, a domestic noir type, to try to shed light on the murder of his girlfriend, a trauma he has yet to overcome, and which caused him to leave Illumbe. The pressure to which he was subjected by his fellow citizens and also suffered by his parents, was too much.
