Fresno State professor helping guide future bilingual teachers wins prestigious award

Fresno, CA (KFSN) –Dr. Patricia Lopez is a proud Latina and Central Valley native, but growing up in school and facing challenges motivated her to take action.

I didn’t grow up like I grew up in a community with teachers like myself. I grew up with a lot of school ties,” said Enseñamos en el Valle, assistant professor, curriculum and director of instruction. Says Dr. Patricia Lopez. Central initiative.

She pursued higher education, and after years of passionate research and hard work, she got a job as an assistant professor at Fresno State University in 2018.

She has also become the curriculum and mentoring director of the “Enseñamos en el Valle Central” initiative. This is a five-year federal grant to develop institutions that provide Hispanic services.

At the time, the Interim Dean of the University of Clement said that this was the largest grant the university had received and that Dr. Lopez was a perfect fit.
