It comes five years after 'Patria', (Homeland: A novel) of which 1.2 million copies have been sold in Spanish.
Yesterday, Tusquets Editores (Publishers) announced that San Sebastian writer, Fernando Aramburu, will publish 'Los vencejos' (The Swifts) this September, five years after 'Patria', (Country) a novel that has sold 1.2 million copies in Spanish. Two years ago the novelist published 'Autorretrato sin mí' ('Self-portrait Without Me), his most intimate and personal work.
"Los vencejos" tells the story of the last year of a high school teacher disappointed and angry with the world, who coldly and determinedly decides to end his life in twelve months. According to the publisher, his story and that of those around him make this novel "dazzling, bitter and outlandish, but also tender and humorous", confirming Aramburu as one of the best storytellers of today.
Aramburu, who lived in Germany for years, is the author of the story books 'Los peces de la amargura' (The Fish of Bitterness), 'El vigilante del fiordo' (The Watchman of the Fjord), as well as the novels 'Fuegos con limón' (Fires with Lemons), 'Los ojos vacíos' (Empty Eyes), 'Bami sin sombra' (Bami Without Shadow), 'La gran Mariviáin' (The Great Mariviáin), 'Años lentos' (Slow Years) and 'Ávidas pretensiones' (Avid Pretensions), among others.
