The aim of this paper is precisely to analyze the evolution and future perspectives of the Spanish-speaking market in the United States with regard to one of the most important cultural industries; i.e. publishing.The structure followed here is a simple one. The first two sections trace the historical evolution of the Spanish-language publishing market in the US since the 19thcentury. The third deals with its most recent phase, that of the great change undergone by this market in the final years of the 20thcentury and the first decades of the 21st.
