The writer and veterinarian from Córdoba has helped to make the culture of women visible in the rural world.

The Princess of Girona Foundation announced today that the Arts and Literature Award this year will go to the feminist poet María Sánchez, known as the author of the non-fiction book, Tierra de mujeres (Land of Women) published by Seix Barral.

Sánchez is a writer who also works as a field veterinarian, a world where most of the workers are men and in which women represent a kind of secret culture, almost invisible but fundamental for the survival of their communities. The author accepted and gave thanks for the award, defending her profession. "I am very excited and very grateful.”
