Elvira Lindo and Alejandro Sanz, on the new Board of Trustees of the National Library

The writer will be the new president of the institution and the singer-songwriter has been chosen as a member for his commitment "to the promotion of the Spanish culture and music."

The Minister of Culture and Sports, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, has appointed new members of the Board of the National Library of Spain (BNE). Last week he announced who the appointed members are: the singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz, the journalist and writer Carme Chaparro, the PSOE Party politician and former President of Acción Cultural Española, Ibán García del Blanco, the PP Party politician and former Secretary of State for Culture, José María Lassalle, the president of the Teatro Real, Gregorio Marañón Bertrán de Lis, editor Sandra Ollo, the, president of FESABID, (Federation of Librarians and Curators), Alicia Sellés and the writer Elvira Lindo, who will be the new President of the Board.

Article 6 of Law 1/2015, of March 24, regulating the National Library of Spain, provides that the Plenary of the Royal Board of Trustees have a minimum of seventeen members and a maximum of thirty; eleven of which will meet the requirements of the Statute of the National Library of Spain. The rest of the members are appointed by the head of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and are persons of recognized prestige and competence in the fields of culture, scientific research and economics or who have distinguished themselves by their collaboration or support to the National Library of Spain.
