Lumen will publish Amanda Gorman, the new sensation of American poetry

The first National Youth Poet Laureate in history dazzled the world with her inaugural poem at the inauguration of Joe Biden.

On April 8, a week after its launch in the United States by Viking Books, Lumen will publish The Hill We Ascend, a book that includes the homonymous poem that Amanda Gorman read on January 20 at the inauguration of Joe Biden as 46th President of the United States. The Hill We Ascend will go on sale in a bilingual edition translated by the also poet, translator and writer, Nuria Barrios.

African American raised by a single mother in a modest multicultural Los Angeles neighborhood, Gorman has become the voice of the forgotten and the youngest poet ever to participate in an inauguration. "With her vigorous and moving words," says Michelle Obama, "she reminds us of the power each of us has to defend our democracy. Keep shining, Amanda!" After the shock caused while reading her poem, Gorman has already become a global icon, she has been on the cover of Time magazine and recited a poem at the Super Bowl ceremony in honor of the heroes of the pandemic. In the publishing world, she has launched dozens of auctions to acquire the rights to publish her work.
