The work "Trigo Limpio" (Clean Wheat, which in Spanish means an honest person), earned him the prize awarded by Seix Barral in their 63rd edition.
Trigo Limpio, the work of Juan Manuel Gil, a writer from Almeria, has won the Biblioteca Breve Award of 2021, which is granted by the Seix Barral Publishing House. Trigo Limpio is a combination of a fake detective novel and an introductory play set between the 90s and today. A novel about childhood set in the outskirts of Almería that plays within constant confusion between the character of the author, the narrator and the main character.
The work has been selected among the almost one thousand works submitted. «In a year in which books have accompanied us, helping us to experience what the pandemic denied us, it makes sense that the jury of the 63rd. Biblioteca Breve Prize recognizes in the award-winning novel, Trigo Limpio, Juan Manuel Gil's ability to give us back the smile, to erase the borders between reality and fiction, to infect us with the fascination for reading from this author and his characters. One of the protagonists of the novel says that we all carry eight important books that connect us with life and with others; I am convinced that this will be one of them for many readers,” said the editor of Seix Barral, Elena Ramírez.
