The jury highlights "the meticulous reconstruction of the life and cinematography of an unrepeatable filmmaker."
The journalist and writer Miguel Ángel Villena has won the Comillas Award for History, Biography and Memories with the work «Berlanga. Life and cinema of an irreverent creator”, which the Tusquets Publishing House will publish next March.
The jury of this award, endowed with 12,000 euros, has highlighted "the meticulous reconstruction of the life and cinematography of an unrepeatable filmmaker, who knew how to radiograph Spanish society during the Franco regime and the Transition like few others."
According to the ruling, Villena tackles with rigor and without concessions the chiaroscuro and genius of an indispensable creator to understand the second half of the 20th century in Spain. Luis García Berlanga (1921-2010) directed seventeen feature films, including masterpieces such as "Welcome, Mister Marshall", "Plácido", "The Executioner", or, in later years, the hilarious series that started with "La escopeta national".
