Among the authors will be important politicians such as Manuel Azaña, Indalecio Prieto and Lluis Companys.
At the end of every year, the National Library of Spain (BNE) publishes the list of Spanish authors that become public domain. In 2021 there will be 166 authors from the BNE catalog, whose works will no longer have copyrights after 80 years have elapsed from their death. The importance of this situation lies in the fact that, once their work is public domain, it can be edited, reproduced or broadcast.
In the case of Spain, the exploitation rights of a work lasts 70 years after the death of the author and are computed from January 1 of the year following the death or certification of his death. However, the deadline is 80 years for authors who died before December 7, 1987. Therefore, works that enter the public domain in 2021 belong to those authors who died in 1940.
Among the authors we find writers, painters and musicians. The BNE has made a selection of works by some of these authors that will be available from 2021 on the Hispanic Digital Library, the portal enables access to the digitized collections of the BNE.
