The writer and historian Jordi Canal, publishes ‘Vida y Violencia’ (Life and Violence), a passionate essay in which he reviews the work of the Mexican writer, enveloping it with the multiple realities of the Aztec country.

“When I arrived in Culiacán in 2010, my interest in the work of Elmer Mendoza increased. The real city, and the literary one finally merged inside my head.  I was surprised to see that I already knew, to a large extent, its people before interacting with them; the smells and colors of the city before smelling and seeing them, its characteristic speech before listening to it, its streets before walking them.”  This is how the writer and historian Jordi Canal (Olot, Gerona, 1964) explains the arrow that pierced his heart when he experienced the northwestern region of Sinaloa, portrayed with surgical precision and artistic passion by Mexican writer Elmer Mendoza (Culiacán, 1949).
