Writer Luis Sepúlveda dies from coronavirus at age 70

The Chilean writer, screenwriter and film director based in Gijón had been in serious condition since February 29th.


The writer, screenwriter and director of Chilean cinema, who was based in Gijón, Luis Sepúlveda, has died this Thursday at the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA), where he remained in serious condition since last February 29th diagnosed with pneumonia associated with the coronavirus , as reported to Efe by a family spokesman.

Sepúlveda, who was the first patient diagnosed with coronavirus in Asturias, had been admitted to the Oviedo hospital complex for 48 days, most of them in a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit, where he died at 10:18 am.

The state of health of the author of "An old man who read love novels" had been deteriorating in recent weeks as he did not respond to successive treatments or to antibiotics, adding other problems associated with different vital organs to the initial pneumonia.
