Instituto Cervantes Observatory of the Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures has been officially launched

With a public inauguration ceremony last week, Instituto Cervantes and Harvard University launched the center that aims to set international standards for the analysis of Spanish and all things Hispanic in the United States.

Gina Montaner to present her new book in Miami

Today, Monday October 21 at 8 p.m. Montaner will present her book “Se alquila Casa Blanca” (White House for rent), a collection of stories about the White House; their special tenants; the history of the building; and the personal experiences she had from her job as a US correspondent in the last seven years. Dr. Montiel-Overall named 2013 Achievement in Library Diversity Research Honoree

As part of its ongoing support of the propagation of library-based diversity research, the ALA Council Committee on Diversity and the ALA Office for Diversity recognize Montiel-Overall for her contributions to the profession and her promotion of diversity within it. She is an associate professor, School of Information Resources and Library Science, and affiliate professor, Mexican American Studies, College of Social and Behavioral Science, at University of Arizona.

Teresa Mlawer is one of the most recognized and respected women in the Hispanic publishing industry. A frequent presenter at global industry conferences and events, Teresa was recently chosen one of the “Top 50 People in Spanish-Language Publishing” by an international network of publishing professionals. For 31 years, Teresa has attended every Liber edition and was interviewed by ARS to talk about this past Liber and her new consulting activity.

Delaware will have its first Expeditionary Learning dual language charter school

La Academia, the state's first dual-language Expeditionary Learning elementary charter school plans to open its doors in August of next year, and it will be housed inside the Community Education building in Wilmington.

Madrid writer Clara Sánchez on Tuesday won the 66th edition of the Planeta Prize, which comes with 601,000 euros ($813,000) in cash, for her novel “El cielo ha vuelto.”

Professors edit 'The Woman in Latin American and Spanish Literature'

The book features essays by noted scholars of Latin American and Spanish literature. It was edited by María Claudia André of the Hope College Spanish faculty and Eva Paulino Bueno of St. Mary's University of San Antonio, Texas.
