Las Cruces, New Mexico bilingual teacher wins national honor.

Central Elementary School Principal Eloisa Solis has been selected as a National Distinguished Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. The surprise announcement was made by Superintendent Stan Rounds during a recent school assembly with all of Central's students and staff.

Joining the celebration was former Las Cruces Public Schools principal Karen Jones who received the award in 2000 when she worked for Las Cruces Public Schools.

Now representing NAESP, Jones informed Solis that she will travel to Washington, D.C., in October for two days as New Mexico's recipient and will discuss educational issues with other honorees. She will also meet with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
