Synopsis
After leaving Italy, her homeland, and briefly passing through California, where she worked temporarily in Hollywood, her relationship with Edward Weston takes her to Mexico. There, she finds a country which is enthusiastic about Europe's cutting edge and revolutionary ideas, and she joins the local group of intellectuals and artists -Diego Rivera, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Jean Charlot, among others- who are just as untamable as she is and fight to conquer artistic and personal freedom. After the death of her Cuban lover, Julio Antonio Mella, a death in which she herself is involved, her fervor for the communist cause leads her to participate in the Spanish Civil War, until she returns as a refugee to that Mexico which had harbored her deepest desires and most noble utopias.
