Valle-Inclán creates the theater of the grotesque, that is, the deformed and bizarre vision of reality, which according to the author himself was the best means of expressing the tragicomic Spanish reality of the early 20th century. The main character, a miserable poet called Max Estrella, lives out a bohemian night in Madrid and comes across a heterogeneous gallery of sad, tragic, and failed characters.
