The Argentine writer Ernesto Sábato published The Tunnel in 1948 and shortly thereafter it was recognized as one of the fundamental novels of Argentine literature. Pessimistic in tone, the novel narrates the story of a murder and an obsession. Ernesto Sábato was awarded the Cervantes Prize in 1984.
