The story is told through the life of Ariel, who upon returning to Santo Domingo, finds himself with the task of complying with the dying wish of his friend Persio. Persio turns over letters, interviews, notes and drafts of chapters to Ariel and charges him with writing and publishing the novel which the former wasn't able nor will be able to create. This "Raw Material" will make Ariel confront the past, from which the not very pleasant experiences of the neighborhood's inhabitants during the years of the Trujillo will resurface. A kind of magic envelops the characters and the city and creates a complex story.
