Jose Carlos Somoza is a Cuban author who was born on Nov. 13, 1959 in Havana.
When he was a young child, amid the aftermath of Fidel Castro’s rise to power, his family was forced into exile in Spain. Somoza lived in Madrid and Cordoba, where he later studied medicine and psychiatry.
In 1994, after he had become a licensed psychiatrist, Somoza began submitting manuscripts to publishing houses and to various contests.
His first novel was published that same year, and he subsequently decided to leave the psychiatry profession and dedicate himself full time to his writing.
His fifth novel, La caverna de las ideas, was a big international success.
