MUÑOZ MOLINA, Antonio

Muñoz Molina is a Spanish writer who was born in the southern town of Úbeda in 1956.

After studying journalism in Madrid and art history at the University of Granada, he published his first book, a collection of his journalistic work titled El Robinsón urbano, in 1984. Muñoz Molina, a member of the RoyalSpanish Academy, was recognized in 2003 for his work as a columnist with the González Ruano and Mariano de Cavia journalism prizes.

His first novel, Beatus ille, was published in 1986 and features the imaginary city of Mágina, which reappears in his subsequent works and is a re-creation of his native Úbeda.

Muñoz Molina won the Critics’ Prize and the National Narrative Prize in 1987 for El invierno en Lisboa and in 1991 received the Planeta Prize for El jinete polaco.
