MENDOZA, Eduardo

Eduardo Mendoza, 64, is a native of Barcelona who grew up in a literary home, which he says had a bearing on his decision to become a writer.

He has developed a reputation as a great parodist, particularly as a result of his crime novel “El laberinto de las aceitunas,” which features as protagonist a strange detective who is also a patient in a mental institution. In 1986, he published his most ambitious and acclaimed novel, “La ciudad de los prodigios,” which made him a key figure in Spanish literature. The Catalan author won the 2002 Book of the Year Prize for his novel “La aventura del tocador de señoras.”
