MARÍAS, Fernando

Marías was born in the northern Spanish city of Bilbao on June 13, 1958 but was raised in Madrid, where he studied cinema at university and currently lives.

He initially worked in advertising and also wrote television scripts.

Marías began his career in literature in 1990 and was motivated to continue when his first novel,  La luz prodigiosa, was awarded the Ciudad de Barbastro prize in 1991.

He later went on to win the 2001 Nadal novel prize for El Niño de los coroneles and that success served as a gateway to his fulfilling a longtime dream of becoming a film screenwriter.
