A novelist, translator and literary critic, Lago was born in Madrid in 1954.
In 2002, Lago was awarded the Bartolome March Literary Essay Prize for his critical comparison of three Spanish translations of James Joyce’s novel Ulysses.
His first novel, Llámame Brooklyn, published in 2006, was awarded Spain’s Nadal Prize.
Lago currently lives in Brooklyn, New York and teaches Spanish and Spanish and Latin American literature at Sarah Lawrence College just north of New York City.
He was named earlier this year as the new director of New York’s Instituto Cervantes.
