CISD continuing two-way language program at Irving

The Two-Way Dual Language program implemented this year at Irving Elementary School has been a positive experience for their kindergarten and first grade learners, parents said.

Last spring, parents throughout the district had the opportunity to submit applications for participation in the program for the 2018-19 school year.

The Two-Way Dual Language program is exclusive to the Irving campus and provides instruction in the core classes in English and Spanish to kindergarten and first graders. Participants are immersed daily in each language to gain a 50/50 balance, in their first steps toward the ultimate goal of bi-literacy.

“In our Two-Way program, we have native English speakers and native Spanish speakers in the same classroom, learning both languages from their teacher — and each other,” Christy Burton, CISD director of world languages said. “This is an immersion-style program and we are very pleased, as a campus and district, with the instruction and learning that is taking place in these classrooms.
