Ana Elba Pavon and David Lopez, 2017 Reforma Award Winners

Ana Elba Pavon is the recipient of the 2017 REFORMA Elizabeth Martinez Lifetime Achievement Award (LAA) in recognition for her outstanding leadership and contributions to REFORMA and the organization's core mission of promoting library and information services to Latinos and the Spanish speaking.

Ana Elba’s love and commitment to our profession is ever heightened by her passion for the delivery of quality youth and children library services and programming in REFORMA's Bay Area.  She contributes on many levels including REFORMA'S liaison to ALSC and representing REFORMA on many ALA committees and collaborative projects and initiatives with other organizations.

During her REFORMA Presidency, 2005-2006, Ana Elba was responsible for organizing the 2006 10th Anniversary Pura Belpre Task Force. She also served on the 20th Anniversary Pura Belpre Task Force in 2016 as the Pura Belpre Award Committee Chair. Throughout her career Ana Elba has continually made a strong and lasting impact on her local communities, the many people she has mentored and on librarianship on a national and international level.

David Lopez is the recipient of the 2017 Dr. Arnulfo D. Trejo Librarian of the Year Award (LOTY) which recognizes a librarian who has distinguished himself in the field of librarianship, promoted and advocated services to the Spanish speaking and Latino communities and made an outstanding contribution to REFORMA.

David began his career in librarianship as a paraprofessional at the Santa Ana Pubic Library and was recruited by OC REFORMA, a partner in the Laura Bush 21st Century IMLS grant Seeds to Trees Academy to become a library professional. David participated in this program graduating from San Jose University. David is a fluent native Spanish speaker, bicultural, a gifted English language creative writer and journalist devoted to library services to the Latino community.

David has not disappointed. He is very active in the OC REFORMA Chapter bringing his leadership skills while serving as Vice-President and President of the Chapter.  David has found success in his library work, but he is someone who truly wants to give back to the profession by helping another library professional succeed.

Congratulations to Ana Elba Pavon and David Lopez!
