The writer presents her latest creation: a kind of writing manual illustrated by the artist Paula Bonet. Rosa Montero’s latest is not a book, although it is published by a publishing house. It’s a “space for writing,” or more concretely and less pompously, a notebook.
Write with Rosa Montero (Alfaguara) contains more blank pages than inked ones; only a few suggestions from that consecrated pen appear plus a generous handful of drawings from an artist who is in love with literature, Paula Bonet. More than a finished work, it is a tool, a substantial creative weapon.
“One writes with the aim of concocting the novel one would like to read. Here it occurred to me to design the notebook I would like to have,” Montero explained during the presentation of the project at Madrid’s venerable Café Comercial. The idea derived from a series of notebooks designed by the Portuguese artist Paula Prego which the novelist discovered in a museum and which she has subsequently used continuously. “Of the many I bought, only three remain,” averred the writer.
