"Borges Esencial" published by , the 23 academies of the Spanish language

To observe the 30th anniversary of the death of Argentine author, Jorge Luís Borges, the 23 academies of the Spanish language have published a commemorative edition of his work which is already in circulation in Spain and will be available shortly in Latin America.

Published by Alfaguara, this essential Borges volume of 654 pages, includes fiction stories and El Aleph, as well as an anthology of poems and essays.  The works were selected by José Luis Moure, President of the Argentine Language Academy, and includes several studies of his work and pictures of some of the author’s unpublished manuscripts. Borges died in 1986 in Geneva.

“It is a powerful selection of Borges’ work and those who read it will have a very concise understanding as to what a prodigious writer he was,” said Pilar Reyes, Editorial Director at Alfaguara, in a presentation this Thursday in the Real Academia Española (RAE) in Madrid.  José María Merino, professor and writer at the RAE, commented that this volume gathers “all the obsessions” of the Argentine writer, among them “the mysterious connection between fiction and reality,” “time and its innumerable perspectives,” or “the double theme” as shown in stories like “Los teólogos” (The Theologists) or “Biografía de Tadeo Isidoro Cruz” (Biography of Tadeo Isidoro Cruz).
